Since opening in 2003, The Music Rooms has been providing expert, one-to-one tuition in a friendly, professional environment. Our highly skilled teachers can offer personalised lessons that cater towards all of your individual interests and ensure rapid progression.

Our location in Newton-Le-Willows welcomes pupils of all ages and gives them the opportunity to perform at our regular concerts, gain valuable ABRSM and RockSchool qualifications, or simply just play for fun.

Over the past eighteen years, we’ve had several hundred students performing at more than forty events and have entered thousands of them for examinations; achieving a 98% pass rate, with 35% of students obtaining a merit and 15% a distinction.

One-to-one tuition is available in Guitar, Piano, Drums, Vocals, Bass, Saxophone, Violin, Flute and Ukulele.

Paul Charlton

Manager, Owner
Guitar, Bass Guitar

A highly experienced guitar tutor, Paul began teaching in 1986 across Newton-Le-Willows, St. Helens and Warrington. He quickly gained a reputation for providing first-class tuition and became renowned for his ability to teach an extensive variety of styles, including classical, acoustic and
electric. Paul’s philosophy of personalised tuition is the ideal way to learn an instrument.

Dave Mannion

Guitar, Bass Guitar, Flute

With over twenty years playing experience, Dave has toured the UK extensively and played numerous prestigious venues. He brings a wealth of knowledge to his lessons and is proficient in many styles; from blues, jazz, rock and metal, to classical and acoustic. Dave’s students praise his patient and professional teaching styles, as well as his ability to motivate students of all ages to pursue their musical goals.

David Howard

Piano, Vocals, Violin

An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, David possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience; making him one of the most sought after tutors in the area. Throughout his life, David has achieved excellence in music and his experiences in Europe and the US make him an incredibly well-rounded tutor. Combined with a degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, David’s approachable nature has ensured continued success for all of his students.

Chris Brown

Drums

One of the North West’s most renowned percussionists, Chris has many years experience playing and teaching drums. His friendly and professional nature allows him to personalise an approach to helping pupils quickly progress on the instrument. Throughout his time at The Music Rooms, he has helped students excel in examinations and many have cited his patience and sense of humour as a key reason for their success.

Tony Abbott

Guitar, Bass Guitar

Tony possesses Grade 8 in ABRSM and RockSchool guitar, with a total of twenty years experience in teaching. He is a knowledgable all-rounder and his versatility enables him to teach all styles of acoustic, electric and bass guitar; as well as musical theory. His versatility makes him a highly valued member of our team here at The Music Rooms.

Peter Howard

Piano, Vocals, Saxophone

Peter studied saxophone and piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Leinster School of Music in Ireland. He has played with a variety of genre-varied groups, touring Europe and the UK. While at Ulster University, he completed his studies and obtained a first class honours degree in music. An accomplished player and teacher, he is highly capable of helping students of all ages who strive towards musical success.

Philip Sharp

Piano, Violin

Philip studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, where he achieved a Masters degree and BMus; learning from the likes of Dr Murray McLachlan and Prof Frank Wibaut. Philip enjoys a busy schedule, playing solo concerts as well as regularly collaborating with instrumentalists and singers alongside his work as a teacher. Constantly praised by his students, his patient nature and versatility of expertise has allowed for continued success.

Heather Cossins

Piano, Violin

Heather is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, having studied oboe as part of a broad academic music programme with international specialists. Heather has performed in a variety of concerts with ensembles during her studies, including professional shows with the BBC Philharmonic and Halle Orchestras. She has taught in a range of schools across Cheshire and prides herself on inspiring people of all ages to be involved in music.
